Brummett Family

Allow children to have fun in their element.

It’s as simple as that.  Children aren’t meant to be restricted in a studio for a lengthy period of time where they have to sit still and forcefully smile.  The child and parents will become frustrated, and frustration doesn’t always provide the best photos.  Studio pictures should be short and sweet if you choose to go that route, but outdoor pictures are great for learning, playing, and exploration.  Let’s face it- children are the best explorers.

The Brummett family and I started taking pictures at the Grist Mill and a field in Norris.  I could tell their sweet little ones wanted to play in the creek, so guess what?  We played in the creek at the end of the session.  Not only was it a reward for their behavior, but it was a time to capture genuine smiles and authentic happiness.  Isn’t that what it’s really all about?

“Children are born naturalists. They explore the world with all of their senses, experiment in the environment, and communicate their discoveries to those around them.”  Thank you, Brummetts, for encouraging your children to be the natural little explorers they’re meant to be.

Jessica & Michael Engagement Session

Jessica and Michael are such a fun couple who are up for anything.  Climbing on top of structures, walking through creeks, hopping up on fences- you name it, they’ll do it.  We started at the Grist Mill for earthier, natural shots and then ended in Downtown Clinton for a more down-home yet urban feel.  Their wedding will be so much fun to shoot, and I just know they will photograph beautifully on their big day.   Congratulations to one good looking couple.

McKinley’s 2nd Birthday

My lovely friend Heather and her husband D.J. have a sweetheart of a child named McKinley.  I had the privilege of taking Miss McKinley’s first birthday pictures last year, so of course I was excited to see her relish in her birthday glory again.  She proudly carried that number “2” around for most of the shoot and soaked up all the attention a birthday girl deserves.  If there’s one thing I love about a photo shoot, it’s all the smiles and laughs that take place.  This family sure knows a thing or two about that.

“If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love.”  -Maya Angelou

Stooksbury Boho Session

Golden light, yellow buttercup fields, and the rustic charm of the Museum of Appalachia set up a gorgeous shoot for the perfectly boho styled Stooksbury family.  Kim’s crocheted cream tank from Josie’s Boutique contrasted so well with Kinsley’s blush ruffled dress from Twig that I secretly wish they made in big girl sizes.  All outfit choices and styling were spot on for my vision for the Boho Shoot.  Little Kason was such a good sport during this whole shoot too.  I love all the sweet family moments, including all the impromptu ones with the horses, we captured.  This is seriously one of my favorite shoots of all time.
